Received a Job Announcement today for the position of Southwest Regional Advisor based in Flagstaff, AZ.

This is a Geodesist position within the National Geodetic Survey. Selectee will serve the states of AZ, NM and UT. It is a ZP-1372-4 position with starting salary of $98.5K topping off at $151.3K.

NOS-23-12050736-DE is the announcement number. You can find job and application information via the USAJOBS.GOV site.

Open period (when applications are accepted) is from 19 July to 2 August 2023.

I note that relocation expenses are NOT authorized. I find this policy to be short-sighted if the objective is to find the best-qualified applicant.

I have not thoroughly reviewed the materials. You should if interested. Flagstaff was a lovely place when last I visited and is the  home of Northern Arizona University. IMO certainly a more desirable location than Phoenix, Santa Fe or Salt Lake City.

The incumbent, Lynda Bell, relocated to become the Alaska Regional Geodetic Advisor after a couple of years in the SW. Bill Stone held the SW position for many years, initially as the NM State Geodetic Advisor, then expanding to the other states circa 2015 when NGS went from State to Regional Advisors.

@stlsurveyor You should check that out. I have worked in government and been around and from a outsider looking in and of course being around the NGS folks it would be a very good place to work. Just some very good people from what I have seen. Now I am a little biased as the wife works there. But everyone of her colleagues have always welcomed me into the family. If I were not pursuing Licensing and such that would be the gig I would go after but I am not in a position to do that and don’t have the brain capacity to either.
