My son, Kris, will be exiting the Marine Corps this coming Jan. He and his family will be settling the Savannah area, where his wife works as an Arch. Draftsperson and where he will attend college.

Kris will be studying Civil Engineering with an eye on obtaining a PE license.

Kris has two tour in Iraq and one in Afghan from which he just returned yesterday. He spent two years at Parris Island as a weapons instructor.

Previously he did spend one summer working with me in the field. I found him to be an eager worker (much more so than his two brothers!) and enthusiastic about his job. He hustled between shots and when I was busy with something I'd catch him trying to figure out how to set the instrument up!

I am writing to see if anyone has any ideas on potential part time employment in the civil/surveying field around Savannah.

His wife has good health insurance so that's not an issue. He would just like some real world experience.

For what it's worth, I'd hire him, and eh can have the family business if he wants it!

Any suggestions will be appreciated,

Thanks,
Dtp

Tell him to give me a call. I'm in the book. I'm a one-horse shop, and can't bring anybody on board right now, but I'll be glad to help him if I can. We aren't in the hiring frenzy like we were a few years ago, (who is these days?) but I can give him the names of some of the larger firms in town.

Thanks Dale, I'll pass that on. He and his older brother were concrete bound setting machines for me one summer. $30 a piece! If you ever need anything like that done. I'd set hubs and tacks and they would set bounds.

Andy, I'm not sure which school he will attend. We spoke as he was riding the bus down to Savannah, about an hour ago. he just returned form Afghan last night.

Georgia Southern, just an hour or so up I-16, has a BSCE program. I'm glad Dale chimed in, he was one I was thinking about but didn't want to throw out any names without their permission.

Awwww come on Andy. Fools rush in where wise men fear to tread. (Guess that is why I tossed Dale's name in the hat instead of waiting like you did.)

Y'all have a good one.

Don

I also would like to thank him for his service to our country as a fellow veteran.
Dale good to see you post on here. I am sure that there is a surveyor or two who might need a good man from time to time. I will let them know verbally, as Dale and most of you know I am now in Western Georgia just north of Fort Benning where I work M-F. I did start a small private practice in 2011 and have down just a couple jobs a 44 acre boundary/subdivision and I just finished this week the initial traverse on 4 tract totaling about 20+/- acres. It is harder to be a part-time surveyor but it has never been more rewarding to do all the field work and finish a good survey. Wish your son good luck !! If you could post an email address for him to be reached at that might be helpful for me to pass along......

To quote my good friend Dale Yawn
"Good luck with it!!!"

Chad,
Good to hear from you as well. Give my regards to Maria and the little ones.

Don,
Tell your son that his service to our country is greatly appreciated. It is through his efforts and the efforts of all the other men and women in our armed forces that we enjoy the freedoms and way of life that we have now. May God bless them all.

We will do what we can for him.

Thanks,
Dale Yawn
