How have you been doing it?

And, what variety of work is involved?

I've worked construction staking all over the Chicago land area. From Indiana, up to the northwest suburbs, and into lower Wisconsin.

One of our crew members told a story about doing loan surveys. He was given a metal detector, fiberglass tape, a Yugoslavian car, called a yugo, and was driving all over. Year was 1986.

I've learned that "surveyor" can encompass many disciplines. You may be good at running total station traverses all over, or level loops, or rural work, etc.?ÿ

What do you specialize in?

Hard to bill six figures as a consultant when you comeback with "your website should just say we build really big stuff"?ÿ

It helps a little to click on PROJECTS on the top of the home page.?ÿ In addition to the pictures there is a list on the left hand side of the page showing the type of businesses who they have done work for and it also lists the types of services they provide.?ÿ Mainly, what they are conveying is that they are geared towards high-dollar, large projects.?ÿ Why they have not employed several licensed land surveyors for this work is the big question in my mind.

?ÿ ?ÿ So our self perform group specializes in concrete, civil, structural steel and interiors. Currently our process is we third party our initial site control for our civil operations as well as our building control for our concrete team and our layout guys take it from there with. As we continue to grow we are looking to expand our team to also support our structural steel activities as well as our interior group. That being said we feel itƒ??s time to bring in a licensed surveyor to assist with our field team as well as helping to train new team members and working hand in hand with our layout team general foreman planning the future direction of this group.

I find it surprising that a GC that has reached the size that this one apparently has, and prides itself on doing things "in house", is only now hiring its first PLS!?ÿ?ÿ
