Welcome to Canada

Congratulations, enjoy your new position. Fort St John is a typical northern BC town, get involved and you will find it enjoyable. Environment wise: Muskeg/black spruce country, wet, a lot quad access jobs.

You will enjoy managing/working with Canadian survey party chiefs. From coast to coast, the colleges across the land have a good survey curriculum, many of the programs are 3 years in duration. After a few years in the industry, chiefs are quite capable, having a good mix of education and field experience.

And if beer is your thing as it appears to be, you will enjoy the Canadian beer (the major brands basically all taste the same): good tasting beverage conveniently sold in bottles of 341 millimeters, a nice round metric number.

James,
congrats with the new direction and challenge ...
Looks as Focus has a lot to offer,
will you be working in the same region as Scott?

And if beer is your thing as it appears to be, you will enjoy the Canadian beer (the major brands basically all taste the same): good tasting beverage conveniently sold in bottles of 341 millimeters, a nice round metric number.

Don't worry, I heard they sell the Belgian beers as well ... "La Chouffe" already exports to Canada!

Good luck, I'm sure we'll hear from you here on the board!

Christof.

Christof

> will you be working in the same region as Scott?

I'm going to be about 450 miles (725 Kilometers) northwest of Scott

> Don't worry, I heard they sell the Belgian beers as well ... "La Chouffe" already exports to Canada!

La Chouffe, Chimay, Corsendonk, Hoegaarden, Duval, etc. are on my all-time favorites list. The only Belgian style beer that I don't care for is gueuze.

> Good luck, I'm sure we'll hear from you here on the board!

I believe I'll have to follow in the tradition of the "Lawton Blog" with someing along the lines of The Peace River Blog

Best of luck with focus. I started my survey career in that exact office 15 years ago. (It was called wdsg back then). Good office and a good bunch of folks. You should be well taken care of.

This thread was started 755 days ago; I don't think he took the job.....

I don't know why he wouldn't of taken the job neither. that is truly God's country up there. Some even say; that's where the garden of Eden was....B-)

Took the job, had to return after a few months due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Ummmmm, I think you may mean swamp of Eden. Drilling rig of Eden? Perhaps beaver dam of Eden.

Oh wait…… are you talking about the stripper bars?

Your God could certainly do better.

I'm no biblical scholar, but I don't remember anything in the Book of Genesis about a medium pizza and a 12 pack costing $50+ :-O

Ah yes! Par for the course here in the northland. The flashy wages here are quickly eroded by even a middle class lifestyle. The only strategy is to earn here, spend elsewhere.
