this is what it looks like when the seller is a?ÿhoarder used appliance and restaurant equipment dealer. 12,000 s.f. worth ƒ??inside.ƒ? actually, this is what it looks like about 90% cleared out. did the site next door a few years back, and while I knew there was a building here, the 3 acres of head-high piles of washers and refrigerators didnƒ??t allow for much visual inspection. kind of surprised to walk away without finding a body- living or otherwise.

1500 dollar truck.?ÿ why??ÿ no radio, no a/c, no automatic.?ÿ was a fleet maintenance truck for a local school district.?ÿ has that 4.3 that'll drag a house off its slab and awfully low miles.?ÿ it's everything i've ever dreamed of.

Fleet trucks scare me. I'm always afraid that low miles = a half a million hours of idling. I guess with no radio or ac the incentive to idle would be reduced to a winter time practice to stay warm.

Definitely something to be aware of. I've had good luck with a used GSA rig, but would never buy a fleet rig out of the North Slope oil fields. They literally do idle for days or weeks at a time up there in the winter.

Old appliances = white goods

In the world of recycling and salvage those are jewels. ?ÿReal money can be made if you know what you are doing.

Why? Why would "white goods" be valued higher than any other recyclable metal? A washer or dryer is just thin gauge sheet metal.

@ Just A Surveyor

A $5 purchase at the salvage yard can save you that $75 charge to replace the $7 relay on you Kenmore.

Every mechanic, appliance repairman, AC and small engine repairman I know has a graveyard of parts hidden somewhere or in full display behind a highway fence and are constantly scouring salvage yards.

It takes very little time and expense for a trained repairman to fix something when it breaks. Their hefty charge if for the knowledge of what to repair.

Wish you could explain that to my SWMBO. She just had a perfectly good refrigerator (well almost perfect except for the ice maker and a small water leak somewhere in the freezer) for a new Sub-Zero refrigerator, with bluetooth (WTF?). I could have bought a new midget KIA for what she paid for the damn thing.?ÿ ? ?ÿ

My fridge is a 22 years old "shorty" apartment model I picked up for 200 bucks at Montgomery Wards in the "scratch & dent" section.?ÿ A buddy of mine was the salesman and snagged it for me.?ÿ It still runs great but I'm sure it's near the end of its 'tour of duty'.?ÿ The other day I was just browsing what I might replace it with...and...my, my...the prices have gone up in that short period of time.?ÿ Hopefully it will keep running as long as I do. ??ÿ

@paden-cash

I have a 23 year old stand up freezer in the garage. It's unplugged and used for storage of paper towels and any thing else I can stuff in there. Most of the time it's a storage cabinet until when a hurricane warning is issued. After sitting unplugged for a couple of years and a canes' a comin I just plug 'er in and in about two hours the thing is ready to freeze anything. (even Norman if he would fit).?ÿ ??ÿ

Mr. Cash,

I to have a cheapo 22 year old fridge in the kitchen.?ÿ I have had to have a tech add more coolant in the past.?ÿ I'm guessing it will need to be replaced in the near future since on any given day there is a 25% change the almond milk will be frozen.?ÿ My saving grace is that we can not find anything but the cheapo models to fit in our 1940's vintage kitchen.?ÿ On the other-hand, my beer fridge is a late 60's early 70's that still keeps on ticking away in the mud room.?ÿ I would hate to see what portion of my electric bill goes to it on any month.

One thing I do like about some of the newer more expensive models is the ability to choose how some of the compartments work.?ÿ You can have them as a freezer or refrigerator.
