My old Zmax unit won't record more than one GPS station. Every time I change to a new GPS point & enter the new name into the unit for static observation, it deletes the previous GPS point data.

I am not sure if it deletes or the previous GPS point was not able to record on the SD card but when I download the SD card to my PC there is only 1 point in the SD card.

It seems that it re-init everytime I change GPS point. I tried and record a GPS point for 3 hours and I was able to download it ok. It is when I try to observe more than 1 point that it erases other previous point.

Anyone had experience with this bug?

You are "stopping" the session before you change the station name and height, and then starting a new session?

Have you tried moving the GPS to the new point location without turning the unit off?

You haven't said if this is a new problem... so I will guess that you are new to this receiver. If you power down between observed points and start a new session at each successive point you should be creating a file each time with a new identifier. That should be apparent by reviewing the files stored on the PCMCIA card. If you are doing stop and go and not shutting down between points you must let the software know by inserting a string of data with a ???? point name given to the data string while you are moving. Don't know about this particular receiver but on a Z-Surveyor you can make that happen by holding down on the right arrow key while in the station naming field. When you do that a prompt will appear asking if you want to set the station to ?s and you tell it yes by giving a double button push. Well, I will be traveling so I won't be posting for a while. Hope this helps. Others on here know more than I do about those receivers and maybe one will jump in.

Is The Data All There In One Single File?

Are you in fact just renaming the file it continues to collect rather than starting a new file?

If so all your data is there and the work is recoverable.

I think your Micro_Z.Bin file is too large. I have seen this often recently.

In fact, I wrote about it just the other day:

[ ZMax Reseting ]

Or, I might be jumping to conclusions. I assume you are running Static or Stop-N-Go?

Paul

Downloaded the data file and there is only 1 observation data in the SD card. In the past even after initiating the SD card on the GPS, the data for previous work is still on the micro_z.bin. In the recent file there is only 1 observed gps point.

Mark

We are doing Static observation. I am using 128mb SD cards that I bought from Hong Kong several years ago when I noticed that stock for 128mb SD were beginning to get scarce. I actually use the SD format program to make a 32mb micro_z.bin and copy this onto the SD card from the PC so that I won't need to initiate the SD card on board the GPS.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Only One Point, But How Big Is The File?

Download it and take a look. Make A RINEX from it and look again.
