It's a crap shoot for me.?ÿ I work mainly in six counties.?ÿ Two of them have recent aerial-enhanced websites with the most recently filed parcel conveyance available with a mouse click or two.?ÿ Three have good assessor sites than can give you a good clue as to the titled owner; then swap websites and look up that info...
The sixth is the black-hole of record info...no assessor or registrar of deeds on line.?ÿ Pack a lunch and spend the day fartin' dust with the old biddies.

I have to admit however that all this info has come on-line in the last ten years or so and it's amazing compared to what it use to be like.?ÿ I can remember walking 20 miles one way to the courthouse in the snow...and it was uphill both ways... ;)?ÿ
It definitely varies by county around here. Last fall I filed some corner recs in a remote county....the clerk and recorder said there hadn??t been one filed in that county since 2014. She had been elected in ??16 and had never filed one. - and the part time deputy recorder wasn??t there that day. So I showed her how to fill in the index card for the township. They were the 4th and 5th corners filed in that township since the act. Then I said ??Down here in the recording section, most counties just put their sticker over the top of it.? Her-, ??Oh we don??t use stickers here, they??re expensive! We just use our typewriter!? Then she took it over to a desk, ran in into an electric multi-triggered paper launcher and entered all the pertinent data on both forms. They have NO online presence other than the state cadastral site.?ÿ
I??m not a super fan of government centralization, but sometimes I think it might be helpful in this day and age. Uniform record keeping if nothing else. Nothing scarier than these recorder??s offices who loose their institutional knowledge.?ÿ
My home county has a minimal GIS, but online access to public maps is non-existent.?ÿ I've asked every Recorder since 1998 (3 of them) to put maps online, and have watched as surrounding counties began to provide good to excellent access, only to watch our county fall farther and farther behind.?ÿ In 2018 I got so fed up with having to drive to the county seat to look at maps that I filed a request for all filed maps on digital media under the state Public Records Act.?ÿ
At first my request was ignored -- in violation of the statute -- despite follow-up letters and emails.?ÿ After a couple of months I wrote to County Counsel, noting the violation.?ÿ He got the Recorder's Office to respond, saying they'd be in touch.?ÿ Several months later, nothing, so I asked an attorney friend to contact the county.?ÿ He spoke with County Counsel, who called the Recorder, who said that they had put the maps on a thumb drive and it's been at the front desk waiting for me to pick it up (though they never said anything to me about it, thanks a lot).?ÿ I picked up the thumb drive and and gave a copy to the CLSA Central Valley Chapter, which put them online.?ÿ There's no automatic update -- maps filed after summer 2019 aren't online -- but it's a start.

None of the counties in which I work have anything even close to that.?ÿ Probably will never happen as the citizens are largely recognized as big-time tight wads.
We have the information but in 27 different forms and multiple locations.?ÿ One-stop shopping online is a fantasy for the foreseeable future

I try to keep my work in 3 counties and will slip off to do work 2+ hours away for people I've known forever and get to stay overnight or until I am finished.
Most have an online presence.
Some things take going there to trace down the document you need or spend a lot of money on the online deeds that will get you there.
Must go to all clerk's offices if you need a drawing.
Everyone is nice and helpful and will take time to look for what you need.
Maybe I should have had another possible response: ??I know where everything is, don??t move anything, don??t touch anything, don??t change anything, and don??t die or retire... ever- in case I have a question - and don??t throw anything out!!!!.?
