Canadian bills are "Biaxially oriented polypropylene" (ie/ plastic) these days. And it's not the technology that lags, it's the willingness of leadership to take any sort of chance on change. Eliminate the penny, dollar coins, hanging chads, metric system, etc.

Daylight Savings Time? Good example.
Landowner on phone: "real easy, just a few hundred feet, straight line" (me: "right. better start early, schedule 8 hours"). Landowner on site: I'll show you the starting rock, but first let me put on my bear repellant. (me: "I've got my mosquito spray"). Landowner: "this is where the BLM says the rock is, and over there about a hundred feet through those thick pines is where the first surveyor set my lot corner, right where I saw a mountain lion at dusk the other day, most beautiful thing I've ever seen". (me: Sir, this measurement from rock to lot corner is the easy part. You are going to have to change your subdivision line AND title to the true section corner, which is the rock. THAT'S the hard part, and we can't get that done today. And, I definatly do not want to see any mountain lions!).
