Has anyone had success setting up Ashtech Solutuions and Locus download utility on Windows 7? Ashtech Solutions work fine, it the download utility that is failing. I get an error message when I select download via IR.

I'm downloading GNSS solutions free version, does that have an updated download utility that works with the IR reader?

I'm trying to migrate everything over to Windows 7, and the Locus are the last thing I need to get working ... or I'll need to keep the old XP machine around for downloads.

Remember (the final) Solutions 2.7 required the download patch, dload.e_e from 2.6 to work with the Locus receivers. I'm still using XP Pro and it works fine. HTH.:-|

I tried installing the patch on the Windows 7 machine (it was copying and pasting a new version of the download exe and a dll fine into the A.S. bin folder), but it didn't help.

Weird thing is, I tried to set up my XP laptop for downloading the Locus as a work-a-round, and I got the same exact same error message on my XP laptop "Create Dispatch Interface Failed: Class on registered" until I install the "patch" on the laptop, now the laptop downloads fine. I guess the patch works for XP, but not Win 7. And this is with Windows 7 operating in the XP compatibility mode.

I'm trying to download GNSS right now (download is slow and keeps quitting), to see if it has an up-to-date Locus download utility.

email Me Pseudo

And I will send you dload32.exe from my GNSS Solutions 3.60.01.

I have the latest version around here somewhere but have not installed it.

Thanks for the offer, but GNSS finished downloading over night. I don't get the same error message with the GNSS download utility, but it still doesn't connect. I've got a few more things I'm going to try when I get the time.

2 files from the older version= Locus Downloads

"engine32.dll" is also needed from the old version

Unless something has changed, there is no support in GNSS Solutions for Locus download. Simply loading the software on a computer that had been successfully managing connection with a Locus receiver could cause the download manager not to work with a Locus. Even Ashtech Solutions 2.7 didn't support the Locus receivers as I recall.

I don't know of a workaround for the issue but someone else may. I am only posting this to save a little time and heightened frustration levels in the likely event that you find that there is no solution at hand.

Jerry, the old style Locus downloader is on GNSS under Tools/Download.

Thanks, I got both of those files off the Ashtech FTP site yesterday. They resolved the problem with my XP laptop, but windows 7 is still not connecting. However, the GNSS download has gotten me along further, I no longer get the same error message, it goes through the process of trying to connect, but then just says "Date Source not connected".

It could be a problem with the COM port on this new computer. When I get a chance, I'm going to try a Serial to USB adapter, since that's what I have been using. This new computer just happened to have a 9-pin COM port ...
