Is anyone using Windows 7 Professional? One of our I.T. guys stated that I can run any program that I ran on XP with 7 Pro but I would enjoy a bit more encouragement before paying for the upgrade ($200). I'm specifically looking to run TGO office. I have my own TGO version 1.60 which will upgrade to 1.63 via download. Not having any luck running it on the basic Win 7 home addition.

CV

P.S. We are getting pounded by a major thunderstorm and my internet is intermittent this evening.

Been running it for over a year now and never looked back. I think there was a work around for TGO before, and I would assume it works fine by now.

SUPPOSEDLY, you can and I haven't had any problems thus far. I've run a few of my own XP programs and have helped several people get theirs going as well. However, I have no experience with TGO and Windows 7, but I think there is a previous thread here where someone said something about a workaround. Maybe try running a search for TGO. 🙂

Edit: Here's a couple of threads that may help you:

I got a new computer a couple of months ago and it came with Windows 7 Ultimate. So far, all of my software is working just fine. Even some that would not run at all on Vista. I did have one driver for my printer that would not accept anything beyond Vista. A quick download of the updated driver from the printer's web site fixed that problem in a flash.
It appears that MS is finally addressing compatibility issues. I'm sure the small software companies are breathing a sigh of relief.

CV, yes you can run TGO on it. I had to get the latest and greatest versions of Data Transfer and a few new geiod thingys, but it all came from the Trimble website.

Also, you need to have admin rights on that computer and run it in compatibility XP mode and run it with admin rights.

After a few hours of cussing and discussing, it will run like a champ.

Well LGO does not seem to be compatible with Windows 7...
Unless the long awaited update is out by now, we have been waiting about 6 months now. All processing is still done on computers with Windows XP professional around here.
Maybe someone here knows something I don't know about yet?

You see that will be a problem when we upgrade to WIN 7 in a couple of months. We users are not given/allowed to have any admin rights. IT nazi says NO.

If you have trouble running older software under Windows 7 Professional (64-bit version will not install/run some older XP software) just download the free XP Virtual computer from Microsoft and run your old software in an XP environment on your Win 7 desktop. This only works with the Professional version or higher, not home premium. If you have home premium you can achieve the same functionality by downloading a free virtual machine (VMWare Player) from vmware.com. You will need to supply your own operating system for the VMWare Player though, but it works great.
