I've got some gear that I am looking to sell, anyone know the best way I can make this happen. Dealer won't give me anywhere close to what it is actually worth.?ÿ

?ÿ

Thanks.

There is a Buy, Sell, Trade forum here. Post your stuff there. I don't think that Wendell & Angel charge anything for listing your stuff but traditionally successful sellers make a contribution to the cause.?ÿ?ÿ

Value is determined by what a buyer is willing to pay. In the case of a dealer, they obviously have to make some profit AND probably at least minimally stand behind the sale, whereas an individual buyer is usually buyer beware.

I wouldn't necessarily dismiss the dealer offer, often what the seller thinks something is worth is generally an over inflated value.

I have a listing on Ebay right now, close to $300 of accessories new (gently used), I listed the starting bid at $70 and got an offer for $40 which I took today, something is better than nothing on gear I have no need for collecting dust.

They bashed me for trying to sell my old none GNSS gear on here. I've been trying to talk entry level Surveyors into buying it. It's hard to sell old stuff. You just about have to give it away. I've offered some no interest loans just move, the stuff, but no luck.

EBay seems to turn stuff over

Trade instead to a dealer is probably the best way to go.

Yeah, the world is full of ungrateful people who just don't realize how much your old electronics are really worth. Apparently they are all crazy because 100% of them haven't paid your asking price.

Trade instead to a dealer is probably the best way to go.

Frequently a dealer will give you more in trade in value for your old doorstop than you can get in a private sale. But a part of that?ÿ difference might be added back to the top line price. I guess it depends on how much time you have to fuss with it.?ÿ ?ÿ

From the dealer's perspective, there are a multiple of reasons he cannot give you what (you think) your used equipment is worth.?ÿ

If a dealer offers you what the market would give you on a fair private sale, he has no margin left for profit because he has already put the retail value in it and there is no room for margin, hence, no profit.?ÿ No profit = no incentive for the dealer.?ÿ Of course, the dealer ostensibly will have more opportunities to move equipment than a private individual.

If a dealer is a servicing dealer, he may be able to enhance the value of the equipment by clean up, repair and calibration.?ÿ But most people expect some sort of a warranty, even if very short term, to assure viability of the item.?ÿ Warranties have a cost because they will at least occasionally wind up costing the dealer for uncompensated repair.

There are other considerations from the dealer perspective but those are among to main ones.

There are 2 ways "the dealer" will work a trade in.

One is the manufacturer offers an incentive. In such cases the trade in is destroyed. The manufacturer wants the used equipment off the planet.?ÿ They demand proof that the thing is smashed.?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ

The other is the salesman buys it and turns it over himself.?ÿ Maybe he can get a service tech to partner up with. But it's a side deal. There is, of course, a healthy after market in such used equipment and non-factory dealers who specialize.?ÿ?ÿ

Any used equipment you get from one of the name brand dealers is almost always rental return and demo stuff that the dealership has bought from the manufacturer.?ÿ?ÿ

I don't even place a price on it. Just ask for an offer. It does no one any good sitting on my shop deteriorating.
