Would that be Zimbabwean dollars?
Just curious...:-S

No, this is on the suburban fringe and would easily bring that in USD for land development. I realize that in Utah and Idaho the whole idea of suburban land changing use is not in the universe of possibilities, but that's life around the Big City. Prudent surveyors work to standards that are appropriate to the future land use. I also suppose that in rural practice in UT and ID, if +/-1.5 ft. is close enough, the whole idea is probably just to accept the fence post as "original" and the rebar as merely a clue as to which fence post is the boundary corner. :> Hey, I'll hold your beer and watch.
I must say, although I have been frustrated with Kent at times myself, I don't see the big controversy of the so-called "bait-and-switch" discussion. I see his example as being a rhetorical question. (where on the rebar is the corner) He asked a question that has a fairly obvious answer to make a point.
I went out to see how a crew was doing some time ago, and they had just found a section-corner monument and were in the process of taking ties to it. I asked them if they looked around for any other monuments and they responded "of course". I spotted a guardstake and went to it and said "what's this?" They came over and looked at another section corner stamped accordingly. (just an example of me being right to make a point. I prefer that over giving an example where I wasn't right).
Measurements are valid evidence, and sometimes they are the best available evidence. I disagree with anyone who always accepts the first thing they see in the ground as much as I disagree with someone who always set their own pin regardless of what evidence is on the ground.
(PS, "A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked to make a point rather than to elicit an answer." for anyone who doesn't know but doesn't want to ask)
I don't want anybody to think I'm going easy on Kent, however, he has apparently had some bad experiences, with "jump on it, and call it good" surveying incorporated. This has probably led him to a hateful set of thoughts, about such practices. This is probably why he had a meltdown, over my thread, "My interesting week". And the fact that I yielded to a monument, "5' out of position."
Maybe Kent is just venting, and seeking to shake a lousy taste, from his mouth. His (apparent) hostilities are really towards somebody else, but, the saying "Kick the cat" comes into play, as he felt I was a disreputable feline. No matter. It's kind of funny, from where I sit. He simply has some mis-directed rage. Maybe anger management classes would help! Or, he could sneak over to "jump on it, and call it good" surveying, and place graffiti on their building, or truck.
Then, he would be a nicer guy.
This forum is like "Couch time at the local psychiatrist office" for him. So, vent on. But, next time, let the good fellows, of this forum know that you are just saving a buck, and using this forum, as a psych couch.
I personally could have been potty trained wrong. Dunno. Maybe Kent was. Carry on. Eat out at Chick fill. Or whataburger. Maybe it'll do the trick. Food does help sometimes.
Going to get me some food now....

Kent posted a picture that gave the impression that the fence corner and its concrete anchor were either pulled up from the long action of a really tight fence, or had been bumped by some piece of equipment. Without reading through the whole thread, I knew that there had to be more pertinent info that would be given only after a few responded in a way to warrant being chided for jumping to conclusions, or being lazy and sloppy by accepting the first visible piece of metal in the vicinity.
So I just jumped to the end and gave Kent what he wanted. I would continue pulling his chain, but I'm afraid some may not recognize [sarcasm]sarcasm[/sarcasm] without the appropriate font. Besides, last time I decided to taunt Kent in one of his threads by asking him to answer some question about a basic fact of his scenario that he refused to provide, he left the forum for several months and his acolytes accused me of being a troll for trying to pull an honest and complete set of facts out of him. I'll stop now while he's only mildly agitated enough to defend the property values (with a grossly inflated figure) and distract from the facts with his predictable derisive comments about PLSSia and the standard of practice in Utah.
