Trying to figure out what to call this do-hickie. Technical name or general name eludes me.

I think it is the Department of Homeland Security unwarranted wire-tapping thinga-ma-bob or chinga-derra.

I think it has something to do with Nitrogen also, but not sure what exactly it is. You are on the right track though.

Telephone Repeater....

That is a repeater enclosure for Digital telephone Circuits that need amplification, lice Copper T1's and ISDN Circuits. These are gradually being replaced by Fiber Optics, but most Telco's have a "If it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude....

Slightly Different Versions....

http://www.adc.com/Americas/en_US/Product/1270708854466/1270708945047

This is an older version, but still commonly used....

http://www.addedcommunications.com/819.htm an AT&T 819 Style Repeater Case

The green thing on the ground is a splicing pedestal. The buried cable loops up into that, and that is where they splice the cable coming from the repeater case into the buried cable.

Probably more than anyone wanted to know 🙂

Hope that helps.
