I'm an underwater survey software developer and am about to release a package dealing with drones and GPS from GoPro video cameras. Normally we just use WGS84 as a datum for offshore work. My software currently has UK Ordnance Survey, Eire and WGS84 datums.

What datums are most popular for the US and Canada when converting lat/long to easting/northing? I can easily add various NAD27 datums, do folk use that still or is it too old?

If you decide to support USA datums, NAD83(2011) would be most used at present, unless someone is working with the international datums, and you should plan ahead to support the 2022 datums (plural-per region) when NGS releases them.

I don't know your level of sophistication, so please don't be insulted when I say to NOT believe the old old reports that say NAD83 is equivalent to WGS84.?ÿ Be aware that NAD83 has several realizations, of which 2011 epoch 2010 is the current latest.

Then for vertical, most work on land is done with NAVD88 with the most recent NGS release of geoid, 2018, but I'm not aware of what offshore surveys use.

Also be aware that wgs84 has many realizations as well. Usually gets updated about every 5 to 7 years. Go to National Geospatial Intelligence Agency for wgs84 info. NGS for NAD83 and NAD27 . ?ÿTwo different government agencies for good old USA. NGS is what most states in USA follow. ?ÿFYI. ?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ
