Hi all,
I'm a freelance writer concentrating in engineering and construction work. I'm a lining up a couple of possible magazine articles. One is about surveying for bridge construction and the other is about architects, surveyors and engineers working on building preservation and restoration.
I want to find a good outlet for the articles. I know there are three main magazines in the U.S. for surveying and "geospatial" work: POB, xyHt and American Surveyor, but I don't know much about them. (Heck, I'm not really sure what "geospatial" is.) So I'm looking to get some opinions on the magazines.
What professional magazines do you read? What do you think about them?
Thanks,
Colby

First off, fantastic avatar.
With regards to the magazines, I peruse all of them, but don't read them cover to cover. I personally like American Surveyor the best.
If you do this for a living, I would suggest contacting the marketing departments of surveying equipment manufactures rather than surveying trade magazines directly. The magazines themselves operate on slim margins and don't have a lot of funds to pay professional writers. A lot of the "feature" type articles are provided to the magazines free by the marketing departments of Trimble, Topcon, and Leica and the authors are paid by the manufacturer.
FYI - I used to edit one of the "big three"
I read all 3. Lately I've been finding xyHt to have the articles of greatest interest to me. American Surveyor often has the best photography.
AS is the only one I'm reading lately.
I just look at the pictures.
