I Like the comment section. Maybe we should push the bible aspect of surveying's importance.

Mr, TNAI,

I wonder what kind of equipment that "surveyor" was using that was mounted on a telephone pole?

One of them new fangled quad head, GPS signal filtered Javad units you push around on a golf bag cart using pole mounted lightsquared, maybe?

Underground line from pole. Probably a transmitter sending a signal down a trace wire is what was removed. Surveyors use all kinds of things while doing their diversified work.

In my 1969 copy of Boundary Control and Legal Principles there is a picture of a boundary stone from ancient Babylon, with a translation of its text. I don't know whether it appears in later editions. Anyone moving the stone, or for that matter challenging the grantee's title, is threatened with a long list of curses from a similarly long list of Babylonian gods, including such things as:

--Anu, Enlil, and Ea will destroy the foundations of his house and carry off his children.

--Marduk will cause him to develop dropsy.

--Nabu will change the offender's own boundary and boundary stone.

--Adad will fill his canals with mud and his fields with thorns.

--Sin will give him leprosy, etc., etc.

The curses must have impressed people, since the stone was still there 3000 years later for archeologists to dig up.
