The client wanted to know which trees were on his side of the line in a scan.

My guy has one tree at least.
In the back of the scan is a stake we set a few years ago.
It is either leaning or warped, but the base looks good to me.
After than exercise I have to ask: Does anybody have an easier way to create a cloud from CAD? I used excel and some trig functions with a ton of copy and paste.

Yeah, you just set some spikes or capped iron rods on the actual boundary on either side of the trees in question. That's what the client typically wants to know, i.e. where their boundary is on the ground, not where it virtually could be. :>
Maybe the client is an architect 😉
How is that virtual work going for you Thadd?

Did you buy that scanner when you were here in FL.? The Lake Jessup Park scanner:-)
Bill
I was in Fla. for training in the static. We purchased the LiDARUSA mobile mapper with the FARO x330 which can work in static or mobile. Learning curve has been a wall and other things (family, work) keep getting in the way. I was able to play last night and there are some of the fruits of my efforts. I also combined an aerial, mobile and static scan into one cloud which is pretty slick.
As my client has been encroaching over the line and the property next door was recently purchased by others, this allows for someone to see where the trees are without alerting the neighbors. One of his hammock hooks is on the neighbor's tree... We would not want to lose that yet.
Virtual Boundary from a genius
FZ was the best of the best and left us to soon.... but its we are what we are and it is what is. He left us his legacy though for us fortunate ones to actually saw him live (3 times for me).
It kind of ties into the virtual boundary thoughts that he likely would like to write a song about. True but yet virtual. Bless him
Don't know the gizmo link way, but here is a live version I found:
