I have kinda been wanting one of these... for a number of reasons. One is that if you work down toward MAGNET COVE, there is alot of variation in magnetic declination.
And, there are circumstances, where retracement of GLO boundaries, I can see this as perhaps useful.

Does anybody here have any experience with these, and what degree of usefulness do you think it could be?

Thanks!

I've got one Nate. The only advantage it has over my Sipe-Sumner Warren Knight or my K&E staff compass' is that it has the transiting scope with stadia lines. Note that is has a very short needle.
Take a look at the brochure: http://www.ushikata.co.jp/English/compass_e.html

I would save my money and look for a Warren Knight or K&E staff compass and use a chain. If I really needed stadia I would get a Wild T0 compass theodolite or an old K&E transit.

Well, a T0 would obviously be my 1st pick. But, those are simply in the hands of folks, who are, shall we say "Keeping theirs a prisoner"?
🙂
Thanks for your comment.

If you want, I'll buy this and ship it to you on trade for your Javad. Deal?

I saw my first T0 at the MALSCE Convention when I ran into Dace Ingram with a wonderful Wild collection of instruments. I'd love to have one of those, too.

Sipe Sumner for direction.

Leica Disto for distance. My Disto has a tripod, video for aiming, and it reduces slope to horizontal.

Good idea Nate! I'd like to see a pic to make sure that the Javad is still in top shape before I commit to such a deal! 😉

Ok, Do you want the Javad LS, or the Javad Survey Chariot?
And, how much boot are you throwing in?
🙂

Just the LS is fine. I'd rather not get involved in shipping an entire vehicle. I do appreciate the offer though! As to your question regarding boots, I do have four pairs of work boots currently so I suppose I could part with one or two pairs. Do you prefer loggers heel or flat sole?

Well, Mr Zoidberg, you are a long ways from Arkansas. If you were closer, I'd offer you a demo. However, I am afraid your boots will be worn out by the time you walk here, and see the demo, and what will you wear home?
Arkansas. If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes. So, bring a jacket, rain coat, and a leather jacket, with an American Flag sewn in the back....

New York. Same as Arkansas, Except harder to get to Texas, and watch the Razorbacks beat Texas!

With that "chariot" the LS may have to get swapped for a gas card sooner than later.

It has a Cummins, and a 5 speed. And, positrack rear end. And, 3.52 gears. It gets better mileage, than my old 1993 dodge with Cummins. Since the speedometer is messed up, I cannot tell the mileage for sure, but it's around 16+. Fully loaded, it's nice.

Diesel in NY is often 1--2 $ more per gallon, my mind is in NY muck of insane business costs. That is a sweet rig and this Yankee may be a bit jealous...
