I am doing an elevation certificate for a client who built a new house along a river. The nearest benchmark I researched was 3.5 miles away. Just by chance, I stopped and looked for a benchmark on a bridge crossing the river about a quarter mile from his home. Low and behold there is a USGS benchmark which was set in 1967. My problem is I can't find any information about it. What datum it is on or anything. Any suggestions?
Contact the office in Rolla, MO. Anytime I have been in that situation, they have found what I needed. Usually pretty quick too.
Run through it on your 7 mile loop!!
Send a note to John C Fouke ([email protected]). All of their vertical data will be in NGVD 29. If you don't have a response by Monday send me note with the location and designation of the mark and I'll search our USGS archived data.
IW,
I believe I have that info on two cds. Email me the stamping/decript, city, county general location blah blah blah and I will send you what I have.
Will be leaving for the next few hours. I will look up what I can when I get back
where would one obtain the database/cd's you speak of?
Aren't you supposed to use the RMs on the FIRM map?
The older maps showed the RMs, use is/was optional.
The newer maps (DFIRMs), around here 2007 vintage do not show the RMs.
"The older maps showed the RMs, use is/was optional."
I don't believe that for a minute... The old forms had a box where you listed the RM that you were required to use. Had to run a 9-mile level loop from one once.
Jim,
they do show the RM's. The info on some panels were not available and you had to obtain additional data by ordering the flood study. If memory serves me ok the info on several were published in the back of the study.
Some RM's were ref 'd on the panel and the first index sheet carried the location and elev and such. I would not trust some of the info especially in remote area's...
I can burn you a copy. But, I am noe searching and it looks like the last version of windows would be 95...I'm running xp. gonna have to tinker with things a bit.
Disc is bad...try this. I hope it helps..... http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/
