On Monday I drove on US50 from Ocean City, MD to Washington, D.C. (specifically to the left turn into the I-395 tunnel).
Today I drove from the Watt Avenue on-ramp (westbound) in Sacramento to the 26th Street exit downtown.
A lot of suburban Maryland US50 near D.C. looks the same as our version, concrete roadway and soundwalls on both sides.
The eastern shore portions, however, are beautiful.

They are getting ready to deck over the open section of the I-395 tunnel (the I-395 trench) and build three new city blocks on the air rights over the highway

Mr. Fleming:
Do you have any idea of the budget for that project? I haven't been to DC since 1975, but that project boggles my mind! And to be complete in 4.5 years. WOW!
drive US 50 through WV for a real treat-lots of switchbacks crossing the hills. I did the trip about 10 years ago in my 1984 porsche 944, it was a blast. Nowhere for cops to hide.
I came around a bend in Maryland going with the flow of traffic which was 65 in 55, a Maryland Trooper sitting there, oops I thought but he didn't care. Then it happened in Delaware, same thing.
The speed limits out there are low so it's like California was 20 years ago, everything was 55 but no one paid any attention, not the motoring public and not the CHP, everyone did at least 65. I even saw a 45 mph limit on an Interstate which is ridiculous in my opinion. I'm slowing to about 60 and people are blasting by me at 70 plus.
1.3 billion
I'm not working on Capitol Crossing, but my firm is working on the Union Station redevelopment where they are going build above the rail yard leading into the station. That one is estimated to eventually be 6.5 - 7.5 billion for the infrastructure and another 1.5 for the buildings.

For the reverse of that situation check out US 50 between Belpre and Sylvia, Kansas. Roughly 40 miles straighter than straight.
