When the repeaters first came out my dealer warned me about my unit being too old for this service (something about me having the wrong serial #?). Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? Is there a way around it? I'd love to use one as my Hiper Lite is still kicking, but every now and then there's that 1 shot, or a couple of shots and you've got some radio issues. Any ideas?
I saw this in an older thread. Anyone use this? At 3.5m in length, is there any additional bracing needed on a standard tripod?
I have a base/rover setup of 2002 vintage Hiper Lites. They works great.
I believe, if I understood Jerry Shearon of Hayes Instruments correctly, that there is a software limitation on the distance with the model that I have. I also believe that the low wattage, license free spread spectrum radios was also a limiting factor.
You might try contacting your dealer, or Hayes Instruments and see what they have to say.
Good luck. I'll be using mine until they won't work anymore!
The older Hiper Lites have the FH915 radios on them. The RE-S1 repeater only uses the FH915+ when configured in repeater mode. You can have the radios in your Hiper Lite swapped out for the FH915+ and then it would work. You can still use the RE-S1 as an external radio by using the FH915 protocol, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a repeater. I use it sometimes with my old legacy receiver and then I convert my Hiper Lite base to a rover and have two rovers running.
I have a set of Hipers with the 915+ radios, how do I configure them as repeaters?
Is it pretty simple?
You might be able to configure them using Modem-TPS.
You are correct that the Hiper Lites came with a software limitation of 1.5 or 2.5 miles, depending on age. That can be removed via an OEF upgrade for a price ... But unless its removed, you probably won't get much in the way of extended range from a repeater.
