Not sure if this is the right place..

Iƒ??ve had a Wild t16 for a bit, and a Sokkia Tm-1A 1ƒ? theodolite that I just acquired.

Took them to the park today with a friend.

Set a target (lath and sticky) 300ƒ??,

turned 90, set another.

Turned 3 rounds in both faces with each. Did this several times. Itƒ??s been awhile since Iƒ??ve operated these, but it was a good time. Getting the muscle memory, and learning the Sokkia (never used one before).

I really enjoy the Sokkia. Itƒ??s a genius design. Iƒ??m thrilled with it.?ÿ

The goal is to be efficient enough to be able to take solar observations. Establish a true solar azimuth and translate that on the ground.
Still learning all of that. But getting the mechanics down is important. Learning whatƒ??s going on in the meantime.

Also learning how to calibrate and take care of these.?ÿ

anyway, just figured Iƒ??d make a post. My buddy and I are 4 years into surveying, and have been into the mechanical theodolites. Been into learning about ?ÿsolar observations.

I just like the basics. Always been an old school guy, even though Iƒ??m only 37.

brought a hammer, plumb bob, theodolites and some beer and a portable grill. Wife was cocooned up in the hammock with a book and happy.

Was a good day and Iƒ??m grateful to have had it.?ÿ
Cheers
