"I'd say that if you would really prefer to use a 48 for a dc instead of a modern unit then maybe you aren't realizing the full potential of your new unit."

yeah, then there's the realization that all the field time you've saved, you can now roll over into precious office time, making new friends at all the various technical support centers you have to visit.

?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Iƒ??ll have to confess that Iƒ??m clueless about your last lines:

?ÿƒ??Especially handy when setting corners and you turn the first angle, get line and distance, flip and turn the exact double and split the holes.?ÿ Double centering makes for really good control to come off of in a pinch.ƒ?

Especially the part: ƒ??get line and distance, flip and turn the exact double and split the holesƒ?

?ÿ

He is double centering while staking.?ÿ If the angle to set your point was 60 degrees off the backsight, then after setting the point, flop the scope, turn 120 and set another point (actually a hole, no points set yet).?ÿ The direct and reverse "hole" shows the instrument error.?ÿ In a perfect world, there is no split between the holes.?ÿ Try it.

Looking forward to some good Android based survey data collector applications.

If given a choice, would you prefer an old-style interface such as SMI or TDS?

I was on here more back when it was SurveyorConnect. Seems like then you could reply to each response, but I donƒ??t see how to do that now so hereƒ??s a combined reply.

SMI all day long and twice on Sundays.?ÿ Just retired our HP's and SMI 3 years ago.?ÿ Hung on to them as long as I could.?ÿ They were good DC's and yes I once lost a day of work too and guess what the sun came up the next day.?ÿ Once adding memory cards, we never lost any more work after that.?ÿ SMI was as surveyor friendly as they come, great program, shame it's gone.

SMI over TDS, hands down.?ÿ But neither in today's world. I really liked SMI in it's day but that day has passed.

@MarkMayer

I would more believe that your services and equipment have exceeded what the HP48GX with SMI can help you with.

TDS, because I never tried SMI.?ÿ The Rangers with Survey Pro work almost the same way as the old TDS Survey Pro.?ÿ Or at least very similarly to the versions I used.

Carlson Survey 2006 isn't exactly ancient.?ÿ It still works pretty close to what Carlson today does.
