Previous post concerning asphalt paving on a state highway job being different elevation on two different days per my topo.
I figured out what happened. My gun was out of tolerance although the calibration output of 34 seconds vertical indicated my closures would still be ok since no shot was over about 150 feet. I went back to this site three times after recalibrating my instrument and shot about 1600 points, and after calibration the tolerances were completely acceptable. Everything was within 1/100 which is typical of the S6 I am using. The S6 and the Trimble 5600 are the two most accurate guns I have ever used. I also shot the points on each day from different instrument locations each time and also made sure the tribrach of my instrument was not always oriented same direction. I am confident now in my work, and also that the pavement did not move in this case.
I will notify the vendor that their output on vertical circle index error is misleading or erroneous.
