My TSCe won't stay powered down. Anybody else have this happen?

Do you mean that when you turn it off it comes back on by itself?

If so, and it is not demonic possession....

Sounds like the key is stuck, or else the whole screen is stuck...

Carefully with a pointy stick...like a toothpick or dental pick...scrape around the outer edges of the screen...blow it out with compressed air....

If that does not work...probably is a stuck key and would need to go into a dealer for repair.

I've tried all of that. The weird thing is when it is plugged in to charge, it will shut down and stay off. Unplug it, and it turns on again like it normally would. It won't stay powered down when it is not charging.

Could be a loose nut behind the keyboard.

Very odd...

Probably needs to be looked at by a service center.

Very odd indeed.
Service tech says it could be the keypad.
It's out the door now for overnight delivery. We'll see if it gets fixed. If it can't, need to upgrade as the TSCe's have been discontinued and are not supported with parts anymore. He has 2 more keypads left and can't get anymore.

Keith,

We have 2 working TSCEs in our office that we don't use anymore. I rebooted them about 6 months ago because we were going to "Fleebay" them. I have been rotating them on the charger, but I can't guaranty the length of the battery life. Batteries plus will recell though.

Just a thought....

Rob

Batteries for the TSCe's aren't much of a problem...it is all the other parts like keypads that are drying up.

Besides that...there are MUCH better collectors available now.

Just my dos centavos...

Try this. For whatever reason, it has worked in the past.

Turn it off

Then plug it into your USB cable. This should cause it to come on.

After ActiveSync or Windows Mobile come up and recognizes it, use the eject button to unplug it.

Turn it off.

There may have been a "ghost in the machine" after someone unplugged it from the computer. That was a VERY buggy DC, but be careful. If you upgrade now, my Trimble rep told me the other day that the new DC's are being programmed to not talk to TGO.

Good luck and if all else fails, cold boot the SOB.

Thanks everybody. Just asking the question sent me on a discovery adventure. I was told by 2 different repair techs that it sounded like a failing keypad. One tech said parts are no longer available for the TSCe. He suggested an upgrade for the tune of around $5000. He would sell me a rental TSC2 for $4000. The other repair tech I spoke to has 2 keypads left and can replace it for $350 plus shipping. I sent it out last evening overnight and should have it back and in the field by Friday.
I'm not ready for an upgrade yet and want a little more mileage out of the whole system I have now. I'll consider an upgrade next year.
Again thanks.

PS Rob, used TSCe's are selling from $650-$950.
