Several of ours crews (including me) are having issues with our tsc7's, some of which don't seem to be limited to access. The latest one I posted a video of in the other thread and I've just witnessed almost the same thing happening on a different party chiefs tsc7 while working with him and running the TS today.

Essentially, the touchscreen and keyboard stopped responding in the middle of a distance distance calc, when I realized neither keyboard or screen were responding I left it a few minutes (while we taped some measurements, wrote them down and returned to the truck). Then when I tried it again the keyboard was responding but doing random things. The toggle for the keyboard lock actually put it in airplane mode. Then either the tab or backspace basically shut it down (blue screen for a split second said "shutting down" or something similar then it was completely off. I powered it back on and it launched right back into access where I had been and as soon as I used the keyboard again it did the same power down. This time when I booted up again, I started off just using the touchscreen and avoiding the keyboard until I finished the calc... then everything went back to normal.?ÿ

So it seems like the same issue I was having, just that different actions are happening based on the keys I pressed or I was pressing different keys but I believe it was just tab and or backspace I was trying, and when it happened to my data collector it didn't actually power it down into sleep mode.

My data collector is on the latest access 2022, and his is 2021, possibly never updated since he got it.?ÿ

Windows updates are also not the same. His is on a newer is build of 21h2, while mine is older because I have them blocked.?ÿ

I will do a search of windows version 21h2 glitches but I think my laptop is on the same one and I've experienced no problems with it at all, so it may be specific to this hardware or it's some kind of hardware failure starting and we both got lucky enough to experience it.?ÿ

I'm just curious if anyone else here has experience this type of problem??ÿ

Oh also, his data collector has an issue where the pinch to zoom doesn't usually work, but mine never has that issue unless I'm using gloves (glove mode doesn't really work on the tsc7 unfortunately).

Don't know if it matters with the TS7, but my TDC600, which is android, works much better now and it stopped getting into odd routines once I got into it and deleted all the extraneous apps.

Since it's a "phone" and a DC there were all these apps, some which were hidden and needed to have buttons pushed in a particular sequence to activate.

If it were me, I would delete everything that doesn't directly have to do with surveying.

I couldn't care less about Google, or paypal, or all the other junk that's on the phone side, I cleaned out all of it and it works amazingly now. Maybe the TS7 isn't bogged down with that stuff, but the issues you're having sound very familiar.?ÿ

@mightymoe?ÿ

I've run a windows debloat on my tsc7, the same one I used on the Panasonic tablet I used before and my personal laptop...it helped with performance. If anyone thinks that is causing the issues, the other guys tsc7 is straight out of the box and experiencing several of the same issues.?ÿ

When I had the tsc5 I did the same as you and disabled all non critical apps, which did help, but I ended up returning it due to multiple issues. The main 2 being point manager taking about 15 seconds to load on larger jobs and the touchscreen failing to respond. I didn't want the bulky heavy tsc7 but the tsc5 just didn't have enough power for the jobs I run on it.?ÿ

Anyway whatever is happening doesn't seem to be related to an overworked processor, it's not happening in the middle of heavy tasks necessarily, it's just random.?ÿ

In case anyone is interested...this is the TSC7 processor on the left vs the one in the old Panasonic fz-m1 I was using prior. There is a pretty noticeable speed difference, the Panasonic being much less likely to slow down. It was also released in around 2015 and cost $3000, about 1/4 of the tsc7. If people are looking to save some $ and don't need to spend $9000 extra for a keyboard.?ÿ

That said, the tsc7 is not extremely slow. It's just not really up to the standard of a $12,000 computer.?ÿ

do the Windows updates.

?ÿ

talk to your rep.

it's not just the big updates, it's the shards of glass microshaft sends all the time that can make a huge pain or difference.

?ÿ

sorry.

?ÿ

it is what it is...

I had a little issue today. I have a new crew chief who has never ran Trimble before. ?ÿWe just got in the door this week a new r12 and r12i tsc7 xƒ??s 2 s5 robot. Anyway I could set everything up survey styles and vrs connections base and rover etc. But I had him set with me as I went over what I knew on survey styles on the emulator on my desktop. Teaching him all the issues etc that can pol up. We broke out the robot and set it up in the office as it was pouring outside. Got him his new tsc7. Started walking him through the survey styles and robot radio connection id channel etc. set up the BS and did some measure rounds stake out letting him change all the options showing him how he can personalize different things. But every time he tried to hit the measure key on the screen it was not responding very well at all. I grabbed the other new tsc7 and had no issue. We rebooted a couple times etc. a email was sent to dealer as it was acting very weird. ?ÿNow is there some way to calibrate the screen like on the tsc3 on the tsc7. I have never had the issue so never needed to do that. Maybe it needs some type of screen calibration i have no idea. On my list to look into tomorrow. ?ÿBut i was thinking of you man as i said degnabit its a curse of prior leica users lol. But we might have got a lemon.?ÿ

@olemanriver?ÿ

I think there is a screen calibration option...but it's more for if the screen isn't responding in the right spot as you touch it. It's more for the older data collectors like the surveyor 2 and tsc3 etc old style screens. The modern touchscreens should be like a smartphone touchscreen and not need calibration.?ÿ

One of our crews has had to do that with theirs but I suspect it's been damaged from a drop.?ÿ

The actual calibration and sensitivity of the screen on my tsc7 usually seems to be perfect right up until all of a sudden everything stops working.?ÿ

Although I have had on one colder windy day last week it got so you had to press extra hard and sometimes it wasn't responding at all. A warm up in the truck seemed to make it better for the rest of the day on that particular job.?ÿ

Oh and I think a lot of the lemons might be a COVID quality control problem. Companies are probably still dealing with supply chain issues and sourcing parts from new suppliers, possibly letting quality slide in order to be able to keep supplying products.?ÿ

I noticed when I updated the firmware on the s5 the last couple updates to the firmware were just for compatibility with new parts from a different supplier.?ÿ

@350rocketmike yeah kinda crazy how just that one is acting quirky. I told my chief to take a extra book and make every note as he uses it this week. I said everything. I will take those notes and send to the dealer if it continues. ?ÿYeah it was like he was pressing one spot but it was not recognizing the location. Of course we were inside and such so we will see how it goes. But it will be watched. I will try and read up if their is a way to re calibrate the screen. And sensitivity type settings. ?ÿI usually see it activate a command sometimes in the field on others before I touch it completely. So maybe itƒ??s a setting.?ÿ

I agree on quality during covid and after. All my farm supplies and such have taken a dive. Had a pallet of chicken feed during covid i had to return killed a few hens. And they had a recall. I was upset but it was not storeƒ??s fault. But i had unloaded it all by hand stacked in my shed and reload it to take it back.?ÿ

@olemanriver?ÿ

Sorry about your chickens. That's even worse than equipment problems.?ÿ

The sensitivity settings are finger, stylus and glove. I use either finger or glove (the rubber tip fell out of the built in stylus and I haven't got a replacement yet). Glove mode is more sensitive but you have to get it back to finger mode the second the sky begins to precipitate (or any debris falling out of branches etc) this was the same on my previous tablet except worse because glove mode was more sensitive and more likely to actually work with gloves.?ÿ

I don't want to do the touchscreen calibration because I don't want to mess up the perfect calibration from the factory. When it's not acting up it's perfect. Also the Panasonic tablet I used for the past few years has a very similar touchscreen and it never once went out of calibration over years.?ÿ

I did deactivate the windows update blocker last night and updated everything on windows. It's now on 22h2 and all the latest driver updates. If it helps it for the better I will block the updates again. A bad windows update can really throw a wrench into the works sometimes.?ÿ

My boss has sent an email to Trimble on behalf of several crews to document that we are having issues before the warranty ends and the problems get worse.?ÿ

I will update if there is any change or not after the windows update.?ÿ
