We have a TSC2 data collector that will NOT TURN ON. Have tried pulling the battery and cleaning inside, have tried holding down the power button for 5secs, 90 secs, and every imaginable combination therein.
Now when I hold down the power button it chirps every 10 seconds or so but NEVER comes on. If I loosen the screws to the battery, and hold the battery lightly against the unit the screen flickers with vertical lines ...
have tried plugging in download cable to laptop to see if it recognizes it and nothing, those are all the clues I have ...
any ideas?
THANKS
could be the battery is not accepting a charge.
can you test with one you know has charge?
thanks for the suggestion ... I don't have a spare but I really don't think that's the issue, was working with it for an hour or two, it was fully charged and working fine, this has happened to me several times before and it would always eventually come back on but alas, not this time ...
OK, but the reason I said it was that mine does the same things that you have described when the battery has totally run down (or it thinks it has).
Trying to charge it up can be difficult as well, as it sometimes refuses to take the charge. Eventually it gets there after many attempts.
I think the battery monitoring and charging circuits can get a bit confused sometimes but all my batteries are well used and need regular topping up. Little and often seems to keep them happy.
Maybe yours is a bad connection if it makes a difference when you loosen the screws?
ok thanks, will check into it in more depth m...
Try leaving the battery off for an hour or two (or overnight). Then reinstall and charge.
Gregg
will do thanks
Battery contacts may need a good polishing with a pencil eraser.

thanks Gregg, I just tried this and no dice, but thanks for the suggestion, any other ideas?

thanks, I just tried this as well and no dice, thanks for the suggestion, any other ideas? I also tried contact cleaner ...
If it's a power problem, have you tried turning it on while it's plugged into a charger? What does it do when you plug it into a charger? Any flashing lights or anything?
> If it's a power problem, have you tried turning it on while it's plugged into a charger? What does it do when you plug it into a charger? Any flashing lights or anything?
yes, thanks for asking, I've tried turning it on while plugged into the charger and it is behaving the exact same way ... I also tried plugging in the download cable to the laptop to see if the laptop would "recognize" it and nothing ... when I lightly release the battery from the unit, like a tiny bit, like less than 1mm, I do get some vertical lines barely flashing in and out on the screen but that's about it
let me know if anything comes to mind please, thanks!
One thing I'd like to throw into the mix here is the fact that this has happened to me maybe 4 times in the past and I always got it working and that's because I found some instruction online and it had to do with pulling the battery and HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON DOWN FOR A CERTAIN LENGTH OF TIME and then putting the battery back in, there were a few other things involved but I can't remember what it was and I CAN NO LONGER FIND THESE INSTRUCTIONS ONLINE so ... if anyone knows anything about holding the power button down with the battery removed and what that does or what length of time one should do it, PLEASE CHIME IN...
thanks everybody :bye:
What about the backup battery?
Don't know where it is but I think there is one.
I had the same thing happen to my TSC3.
The screen would go to sleep, and hitting the power button resulted in a single flicker of light, and back to black.
The temporary cure was pulling the battery for 20 minutes.
I sent it in to the dealer and they had to replace the main board (whatever that is).
The above repair was done under an extended warranty and the collector was just under 2 years old.
Sounds like quality, doesn't it?!
