My last 25 years has been with Leica and Topcon. I was given a Trimble S7 with a TSC3 data collector which is running Trimble Access. I am setting up a training ground and would like to traverse the stations, but can't seem to find a traverse function in the data collector. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Unlike the old TDS Cogo programs, I don't think Access has a specific 'Traverse' function that automatically moves you ahead in the DC. With Access when you connect to the instrument you have the option of setting up your occupying point and back sight, at which point you can either shoot your next station in your traverse as a side shot or perform rounds, which is a doubling angles sequence that you can set up whichever way you like. Once you shoot in your next traverse station and disconnect from the robot and move ahead, once you reconnect and level, you repeat the set up with your new traverse station as the occupying point and previous set up as the back sight, rinse and repeat. Hope that helps.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
Thanks for the assistance. I will give this a go. I'm used to running a routine that will perform a closure at the end. Trimble systems are new for me.
Measure Rounds is what you want. Lets you turn rounds (sets) however you wish to do so. Once you enter the function, use the Options button at bottom to change settings i.e., order observed, face order, number of sets, etc.
It's called "Rounds" because it can contain any number of points you wish to observe during the measure operation, so essentially a "set" of traditional set measurements.
If, after you have run through your traverse stations using the rounds function, you want to adjust it in the field, go to Cogo -> Traverse to select your stations and observations and apply the desired adjustment.
Access does have an outstanding online help section here.
Good luck.?ÿ I've used a few different DC softwares, and Access is one I never really got the hang of or liked.?ÿ
@jph thanks. This is what i've been told by a few people.
Check Trimble.com for pdf manual on Access

Eh, I still haven't found anything as intuitive or customizable as Access, and I've worked with TDS, Carlson, Leica, Spectra, and Topcon. Whatever type of job I'm doing, whatever type of gear I need to run, it'll do the job and allow me to set up the workflow my way.
The catch is that you do have to get familiar with all the various features and options. I love it, because I can tweak and streamline data collection depending on the type of job I'm doing, and site conditions. There's a ton of information out there on how the gear works and what the software does, but it takes time and energy to really dig into it and understand it.
true.?ÿ I just want to see what else is out there.?ÿ WHen I worked in Mainframe computers, they make no sense at all until about 6 months after learning that their "sense" is just that, esoteric, and they churn along doing there thing.
I am excited to try the new Droid based system, because Windows has been a horrible platfor for a data controller.
I loved the TSC-1. Two ports, slow, but always worked, regardless of the non touch screen etc.
Access is powerful software that??s the best I??ve used. Even going to survey pro/TDS seemed like it was designed for students in functions and appearance. Access often has a help option within a function you are in and at the main start menu where you can search and get to what you need. A great ability is to display arcgis shape files, including the attribute data for the data. The last I heard, Leica did not consider GIS file support a surveying need.?ÿ
@robertusa The Leica survey related software supports shapefiles and a geodatabase. You can also connect to an ArcGIS Online instance.
@williwaw It's possible to have Access automatically update your station and backsight just like the TDS Traverse routine, it's in the Station Setup Options menu (unless they've changed it since the last time I looked at it)
