Anyone have any experience using the Trimble VRS network in north central Illinois?
We are using the KARA network with Leica GPS. I'm wondering if the Leica gear will work well off the Trimble network. Conversely, will another brand work well off the KARA network?

Basically, I'm looking at options. We have a 1200 system but apparently didn't shell out the $$$$$ to be able to utilize GNSS, even though the 1200 is capable. I'm trying to cover all my bases since we are not brand loyal.

I've only used the Trimble VRS system in Southern Illinois, but it was superb there.

Kara may have more base stations in the Chicago area, but maybe not.

The Tollway Authority has it's own VRS, however you have to be a contractor or consultant to log into it. But I understand it's very good. Whether it's tied in with either of the other networks, i can't say either.

I see some consultants (i.e. Missman in Rock Island) have set up their own company specific VRS networks. I think I read somewhere on this board that it's not that hard to do.

Thanks for the info. I have been spoiled by employment that allowed me to use the latest-greatest equipment. I now find myself basically starting over. I'm up against some hard-headed old timers (not surveyors either) that are the decision makers in the company. I have to educate them on why decisions they made in the past were based on little knowledge of the subject. They simply have no idea what kind of work is capable with new equipment. I think some here are under the impression that equipment manufacturers are still making 4 screw transits and fixed led tripods.
