I have searched this site and googled and haven??t found any good news regarding WiFi and the Trimble TSC2 collector. Has anyone had any luck connecting the TSC2 to WiFi? I just ordered an R6 with a TSC2 and will have to connect the TSC2 to the internet and hotspot is the only way I will have to do that. I purchased the R6 to use as a network RTN rover in Mississippi. Any help is appreciated. I don??t see an option in my iPhone to make the hotspot ??open?. What have you guys done to connect your TSC2 to the internet?

I was under the impression that all of the newer wifi standards included a fallback to 802.11b.?ÿ
The only problems I was aware of were the newer security protocols, which can theoretically be turned off.?ÿ

I used to use a Novatel MiFi 2 and a Huawei turbostick (E8372 I think). Had a small pelican case to keep the huawei together with a small external usb battery. The MiFi had it's own battery and could live in a pocket.
Several android phones would allow you to create an open hotspot the TSC2 can connect through... I haven't tried for about a year now but have used Asus, LG and Samsung phones for hotspot. Test before commiting to buying anything, it's hit or miss.
If wifi doesn??t work maybe try Bluetooth tethering but Bluetooth has changed as well. Unfortunately some little changes have made some equipment obsolete in certain situations. My father in law has a perfectly good cell phone and just received a notification that it will no longer work as it was 3g only. So he is having to buy a new phone. You could also cable to a phone with the tsc2 so certain phones were your modem to get on internet. Maybe something like that is still possible. Trying to think of other alternatives for you just encase wifi doesn??t work. Did the receiver come with a radio or a modem in the head that might be an alternative. But the hardware back then was probably still only 3g comparable. ?ÿ
At my full time job, we have a Trimble TDC 600 with an R2 antenna and a couple of TDC150 hand held units. They all require a data connection or hotspot to connect to the internet to use the Mississippi RTN. I assume the TSC2 doesn??t have a slot to use a SIM for it??s on data plan?

I am using Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and creating Hotspot but without Password (without authentification). Because S7 can just create hotspot without authenfication or with WPA2-PSK. But?ÿ for a little security, at S7 you can only allow permitted devices after first connection.
Mayby use device that supports creating Hotspot with same options that TSC2 shows for connection (my TSC2 shows --> open(WEP), shared, WPA(TKIP) or WPA-PSK). Or turn of security protocols.

TSC2s are severely outdated from a technology standpoint and will not play nicely within more current technology.?ÿ Curious why you are just now buying a Tsc2??ÿ Our Tsc3 has issues with these same functions and it much more current yet still outdated for a a lot of things.?ÿ Why not spend the time and energy and future efficiency on more modern equipment??ÿ Maybe your not in a position to make those decisions?

I don't mean any offense, but if you don't know, it's ok not to reply. I purchased some used equipment because it's a side operation and can't justify the cost of new. I know the TSC3 is not new either, but the other equipment I purchased was a package and comes with the TSC2, so I'm trying to make it work instead of selling the TSC2 and purchasing a TSC3 model. Like, I said, I really don't mean offense, if I can make the TSC2 work, I think it will be fine for what I do with it and it may not be a quick sell to replace it with the TSC3.
I ordered a Moxee Hot Spot with a 2gb Straight Talk data plan to try out. I can return the Moxee device if I can't get it to work and would only be out $15 for the data plan. Maybe I can adjust the settings and get it to do the job. Straight Talk gets pretty good signal around here.
