What is the best way to to run a long static survey with an R-8 and tsc-2 to send to Opus. How do you set it up? In a job file. Does OPUS accept job files. I wish to show your response to my crews. The procedure....

Thanks

Just set up the R8, turn it on and let it collect data. You don't even really need the TSC2 in the field.

Transfer the file to the TSC2 then to your computer and send it to OPUS.

I suppose if you have your TSC2 connected online you could also go straight to OPUS from that.

And to once again being a curmudgeon

As I stated in your last bunch of posts (as did others), you clearly don't know what you are doing. You need some serious training or good help.

Trimble R8 Staticalityificationness...

> Download the following free software from the manufacturers website: GPS Configurator (and/or the corresponding WinFlash for the R8), Convert to Rinex, and Data Transfer.
>
> Through GPS configurator (connect via serial cable) and set up the Startup/Powerup file to start logging static on powerup at whatever rate you'd like.
>
> Go to field. Press power, wait to see satellite light flashing - soon after the power light should flash periodically - that says it is logging. Grab a good book and a bag of Cheetos.
>
> When done connect serial and open Data Transfer. Hit add and see a list of T012/T02/DAT files. You can convert to Rinex if you need to do any editing/splicing et al. TEQC is a good command line set of tools to get to know (but leave that for another day). There are more streamlining tips but doing the whole process is a good learning experience.

I have done this quite a few times years ago same equipment, this is the same procedure I used, no data collector.

I do remember that once I collected too much time for opus to accept and it caused me a headache had to edit the file and it was a PITA, much more simple to collect the right amount of time.

Unfortunately, I cant remember how much time was the right amount, I am thinking maybe 20 minutes

> The positive side of OPUS is that it is a report that can be evaluated and shows a tie to the NSRS at that snapshot in time. PPP is a cool tool as well.

The problem that I see is that we are becoming too addicted to OPUS and PPP. Yes, it is convenient but this growing culture of basically bypassing established control to recreate new control on each project with OPUS / PPP isn't great.

In a couple of recent jobs that I was working on in the office, there were some fine control points a guy could have use. Those control points were not even considered. Put a new spike, OPUS it, go from there. Come on guys, at least, if you want to OPUS, at the very least, setup on the existing control point.
