We're two engineering students, and we're working in a software project related with this Trimble model. Basically, we need to control and transfer data from the receiver to a computer remotely.

The problem we´re having is understanding the protocol used to transfer the stored data. Using Gpload, we analysed the messages that were sent and received from this program through the serial port. We thought it was the RT17 protocol, so we asked for the manual from a user in this forum.

Most of the messages were explained in this manual, but the key ones - the ones that asked for the data - weren't. So the question is, does anyone have the complete protocol specifications? We read that a user made a software from scratch to transfer the data, but it worked only for Windows 95.

Any help will be appreciated.

Have you explored the utilities available on the http://facility.unavco.org/kb/questions/476/Trimble+4000+Resource+Pag e">UNAVCO Trimble 4000 Resource Page?

Yes I have, that's where I found the software Gpload. All of those programs work with older versions of Windows, or even DOS. I need to design a similar software that works on newer Windows.

There's another software we tried called GPS Pathfinder Office that should do what we need, but for some reason it doesn't download the data stored in the receiver.

Lastly, there's a couple of programs that open the .DAT files, like TOPCON Tools or TEQC, but they don't have the option to download the data
