Anyone have any comments using switching to Traverse pc . Good or bad. Concept Seems like a great idea , but have some problems getting my brain around the use.
I use it and I am happy with it.
It is all I use except for when I need
to use CAD to manipulate some effed up
drawing I get from an architect that
needs to be rotated/translated/scaled
back to the proper coordinate base.
It probably depends on what type of
work you do, if you do a lot of engineering
type jobs there are probably better options.
If you are a CAD power user, you will probably
have a tough time with the transition. CAD never
made much sense for managing survey data to me
but it obviously does to lots of folks.

I like it.

I purchased Traverse PC for the land survey technology course, which I teach at a community & technical college. I wanted to give my students experience software other than Civil 3D, but I've not yet integrated it into the program. It is very different from any thing I've used before and I need to learn to use it before introducing it to the students. I may have time to learn it over the summer.
If you use CAD it will be a difficult transition, it was not possible for me. They have great training over the phone and take over your computer to show you how things are done, but I just couldn't get used to having points for everything you draw, like concrete walks, steps, everything. The points are easy to create but you have to have points. If you remember or ever used Pacsoft drafting it's sort of like that but much better in point creation. The person that worked with me was teriffic and had the patience of a saint, but I couldn't get used to the program. I guess it depends on the type of work you do. I can't speak more highly of the people, but make sure the program fits your style of work.
I use it for the it's deed checking capability, the spread sheet type entry and the ability to correct mis-entered data and have it automatically update the whole traverse and drawing in real time.
A complete site license was donated to LSU. It has been installed in our lab, but a new version (geodetic, I think) was then sent in to us but won't run due to problems with the site license security software.
Currently waiting on the supplier to send in a fix.
I bought a year and a half ago and like it so far. Not crazy like it but do like it. I have had issues with calls changing inside of the traverse when I've had to add a new point above an existing. It will then not allow me to change the calls, I have to exit out and just start where the needed point is and continue with the traverse, deed calls, or plat calls.
I also am having problems with it exporting points. I haven't been able to get it to export to a .csv file to import into Magnet. I keep getting "exporting 0 points". Is there something I'm missing?
Otherwise, I've created some nice plats with it and pretty quickly, but can also say that I've only been on my own for a year and a half and have only had a handful of boundaries.
