Okay, I have a client that wants us to do some pre-design mapping in Oklahoma. Which did not sound so bad because I'm already working on a couple of large projects for them in Colorado and the inference was that the site was in NW OK. When this first came up I told them I could try to find an OK LS to work with since it was a reasonable drive from our current jobs. Then they found out from the owner where the project was located. It might as well be in Arkansas and I'm really not up for the added 11 hours drive one-way for a 10 acre topo. I'm looking for someone who I can coordinate with to do the job. One caveat is the job will have to be rail road trained (although I'm not sure which RR).

Send me an email with a phone number if you are interested. I will get more information as soon as I talk the client in a little more detail.

Thanks

Some of these States get mighty big compared to what the East Coast surveyors think of routinely. My wife's father lives in the same State as us. Her brother is in the State immediately to the north. Mapquest indicates it is 478 miles to her father's town (7 hours, 43 minutes) and it's another 302 miles (4 hours, 55 minutes) past there to get to her brother's town. That's 780 miles and 12 hours and 38 minutes and it's in a next door State.

When you cross the border between Louisiana and Texas on I-10 the first mile post you come across is... 880 :bored:

Surveyors in Poteau, OK

I subbed out some boundary work once to a one-man-show surveyor in SE Oklahoma. He was generally a reliable fella, but was up in years. Having worked for the timber interests he had a lot of experience and knowledge working in "the hills".

After a few weeks I tried getting a hold of him by phone. I left messages until his box was full. Fearing the worst I looked up a home phone number. His wife politely answered and explained "he never works during deer season"....she went on to explain she had no idea when she would see him again, but it would be AFTER deer season. :pinch:

I'm sure there are a lot of good folks down there that would jump on your work. There's actually a few that are here on the board. Good luck.

Yeah, I understand the size of states being from the west coast. We have counties bigger than many states. I don't mind the drive, it was around 1300 to this job site, but the added 11 hours means I'm looking at over 30 hours drive to get home and I'm buried there.

The one on the Sabine used to read 903 as I remember. Of course I haven't crossed that part of the Sabine since 1988.

B-)

I was amazed at the willingness to hire surveyors out of OKC or Tulsa to work in these faraway towns. And the unwillingness to have crews overnight in these faraway places. BUt not the first story of this sort I've heard. John, probably you will find somebody out of Fort Smith, AR to do your work.
