I feel like this topic has been brought up a lot here over the years but I can??t find the solution to my problem. I??m having trouble getting a TSC2 with survey pro to talk to my 8203. Just the cable right now. Plan on using Paranis but I can??t get it to work with the cable first.?ÿ
I am using cables that came with the 8203. Not positive they are original cables so I don??t know if that??s the problem. But when I try to send settings to instrument it says it can??t open com port. I am using the GPT Motorized option in survey pro. Have all the settings like I found on here that other people used - 9600, 8, 1, none, etx, hi, rec-b. I just don??t where the problem is.
If anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction I would be extremely appreciative.?ÿ
thank you.?ÿ
There are two different ways that data transmit/receive wires in a serial cable can be wired up.
You may need a 'null modem' in the line to reverse them.
I will try that. I know I typically need those for the parani setup. So maybe I don??t need it for parani, but I need it for the cable connection.?ÿ
thanks!
Are you connecting to use it robotically or direct connection into the serial port?
If the first you have to enter external link mode on instrument. If the latter you have to be in standard (std) mode.
Direct connection with serial cable and I have been executing the external link with all the settings mentioned above.?ÿ
Ok. I just messed with it again and it does work cabled with null modem but only in standard mode. Does not work with exterior link executed. Not sure why. But it kind of sucks because I have to keep going back to instrument to push buttons such as turning on auto track. Would I be able to do that from data collector with the external link? ?ÿ
thanks for suggesting the null modem Jim. Parani also works with null modem. But again, only in standard mode.?ÿ
Have you got the rc handle on instrument and rc-2 remote at pole with cable from it to data collector?
@totalsurv I have the RC handle on but I do not have the RC2 to use with it. I??m trying to get it set up using the serial cable so I can then use the paranis.
@bigdroner It's a while since I used that setup with Paranis and it was with Topsurv but from what I remember if you are using the Paranis you need to have the instrument set in standard mode and treat the connection as a direct cable connection even though you are using it robotically. It does work you'll just have to keep testing settings.
@totalsurv I did get it to work it??s just not ideal. I thought I would have more control from the data collector but I keep having to go back to gun to hit a button. I only messed with it for a little bit so maybe I??m missing something. I also wonder if SurvCE is better.
