Following a disastrous hard-drive crash I bought a new computer that runs Windows 8 & now 8.1. I decided the best way to revive Topcon Tools would be to download the latest version, which is evidently 8.2.3. I think I was running 8.2 before the crash. 8.2.3 told me to get a new Access Code from my dealer, which I did, but even after a restart it says the new number is "Invalid" and Tools runs only in Demo mode. Anybody else run into this? Or know what I should do? My original Tools license goes back to 2004, so I don't have the dongle that 8.2.3. mentions.
Just went through this aswell with reloading Topcon Tools could not Authorize , the dealer said I had to buy a dongle for $ 250.0 or upgrade to magent tools for $ 300.0 . I upgraded to Magnet tools , basically the same as Topcon Tools with a new look and a few more bells and whistles .. I think this is there way of phasing out topcon tools for good . Now we will be forced to pay a yearly fee to use their software .
Thanks for your response djames -- I had feared that this was the subplot.

Or....
We will look at Carlson's new GPS software package.
If you are running Windows 7, it could be that you need to run Tools as an administrator. Right-click the icon and select Run as Admin.

Or compatibility mode... or both.
To get to that compatibility mode, right-click the icon, select properties and then the compatibility tab. Check the "Run this program in..." box and try some of the various options.

Re: the thread I started 12/05: Everything seems to be fine, now. You've got to scroll down in the "Licenses" box to see the key code for a new computer, so my old key code had somehow been in view when my troubles arose and was what I supplied my dealer. Then I discovered the new key code and my dealer was very diligent about getting that to Topcon and getting me a new access code to go with it; once he did, 8.2.3 seemed to work fine. Looks like Windows 8 is off the hook, and as usual the problem was in between the monitor and the chair.
