Man! That thing really....
(Dare I say it)
?ÿ
Rocks!
?ÿ
Has some nitwit driven a rebar alongside it yet???
No.?ÿ It's as bare as a newborn baby's butt.?ÿ But, plenty of fences have been built to agree with it.?ÿ Last used for a survey in 1972.
Things learned while crawling under a barb wire and an electric fence wire to get to it:?ÿ That little button thingy on the top of a cap.?ÿ Make sure you never raise up while holding the barb wire and make contact with that little button on the electric fence wire.?ÿ I'm told it feels like getting whacked on the head with a ball peen hammer.
@holy-cow I've been bitten by an electric fence before, not fun!?ÿ LOL!
I worked with a crew chief one time that got his feet tangled in blackberry briers and fell on top an electric fence.?ÿ He couldn't get up because of the briers and could lay there because of the fence.?ÿ He was flopping around yelling OOOOOEY!?ÿ OOOOOEY!?ÿ OOOOOEY!?ÿ He didn't really appreciate us laughing at him either.

I remember doing a deep woods survey about 10 years ago in the late fall when most of the leaves had fallen.?ÿ My deed called for stones at all corners of a 5 sided 40 acre tract.?ÿ My mentor and I had surveyed the adjoining horse farm about 10 years prior and I recalled having found two of the called for stones along the common line.
When I went out one afternoon to recon the job for control, I was coming up empty, finding nothing at all.?ÿ After a few hours of finding nothing, I decided that I would focus on searching the line between my PIQ, knowing that stones were found along that line and remembered that the fence line was 10 or 15 feet clear of the common line.
The sun was starting to fade, I was at the rear corner of the property, very frustrated, and decided to call it a day.?ÿ I grabbed my shovel and tape off the ground, turned around and took a few steps before I crashed to the ground after stepping in a leaf covered hole and almost breaking my ankle.?ÿ After I got up, composed myself and walked it off, I jabbed my shovel into the hole and was elated to hear the sound of hitting stone.?ÿ After finding that stone the hard way, finding the rest was a breeze!

My father in law, God rest his soul, modified an electric fence charger to use around his "hog lot" where he had two boars and two sows about 500 pounds each. He was a truck driver and was on the road quite a bit. When he was gone, it was my task to make sure the hogs stayed in the lot. The fence often needed limbs and brush cleared so it stayed hot. I was walking the fence looking for the offending limb. As I crossed a small stream, stepping on the wet rocks, I slipped and my elbow touched the fence. The next thing I knew I was on my back in the stream wondering what happened. Not fun.
Was this anywhere near that river in Deliverance where the local feller wanted Ned Beatty to squeal like a pig?
The old fences that used a six or 12 volt battery for power back when I was a youngster didn't pack much of a wallop.?ÿ But the newer chargers that are connected to a standard outlet can knock you on your rear in a flash.?ÿ Even the solar-powered units will do that.
About 25 years ago I had my daughter helping me string out a quarter mile of electric fence that was connected to a 12 volt battery.?ÿ I had shown her earlier on a different fence how you could take advantage of your rubber boots and touch the wire to get only a little tingle, but enough to prove it was working.?ÿ She drove down the fence about half way, got partway out of the pickup, but with one hand still on the door, and touched the wire.?ÿ I still laugh thinking of the dance she did and the words I'm sure she said that I couldn't hear from my location.?ÿ I had to explain why she got such a kick out of that.
My dad proved to me how a bare wire with no barbs could keep critters where they were supposed to be when I was five or six.?ÿ He told me to hold his left hand, so I did.?ÿ Then he leaned over and grabbed the wire with his right hand.?ÿ It passed through him directly to little me.?ÿ He didn't need to worry about me messing with that fence ever again.
@flga-2-2 Or MORE!!!

Back when we had to replace points, plugs and condensers in our cars we used to break in the new guys by tossing them the condensers that we had taken out.?ÿ You can touch one end or the other with no problem, just don't touch both.

Pa in law was also the practical joker of the family. I remember something about a model T coil holding quite a charge. Pa in law had attached the model T coil to the bumper of a random car (1940s-1950s... they were steel) parked at the county fair. Hiding in the bushes, the teens (pa in law and cronies) saw a lady breast feeding a baby lean against the car. She jumped and nearly pitched the baby. I think they quit pranking anonymously after that.
