actually, i remember the fire dudes in california begging drone pilots to shut 'em down during wildfires last year or maybe a couple years ago.
new normal, most likely.

Can't remember the term you guys like for being a grumpy old curmudgeon but I feel that way every time I'm at the beach or fireworks with my family and I see people flying drones defying the Part 107 regulations. Often the Sheriff's deputies or local PD ignore the obvious ignorance of a operator who has their drone in the sky above people who are totally unprotected and nowhere near safe overhead cover.
I spent time and money to learn the regulations and test for the UAS pilot's certificate so to see these hobbyists giving drones a bad name or using them irresponsibly bugs me. If you use drones as a tool or professionally you're sadly part of a group that includes a bunch of knuckleheads. I don't want to be part of that association. I would hate to hear of an accident or more regulatory issues. Especially when I have never seen any enforcement for rule breakers. I hope some fines are handed out to make an example of the ignorance. That's not an excuse for speeding or driving without a license so why are drone pilot's allowed to get away with it? I'd guess because local authorities don't know the FAA rules themselves...
