So this one is a first for me. I came across a call for a thimble skein in a set of corrected field notes from 1904. This would be a really amazing find if it is still there. Looking at Google Earth there doesn't appear to be much farming or clearing done in this area so there's a good chance. And for those of you that don't know what a thimble skein is (like me up until 10 minutes ago) here's a link.

Have found many for monuments in Cass County.
I set one 3ft down in a county road for the NEC of my lot near the Sulphur River.
More commonly called "wagon thimble" around here.

One of the corners I recovered years ago had the axel set in the center of the skein.

Use to be one at the center of section 28 20N 2E, I.M., Payne County, OK. 115 year old County Surveyor notes called it a "buggy hub". Now there's a piece of rebar and a filed corner reference....wonder where the buggy hub went? Somebody had to dig to get that out. My guess is the yah-hoo that filed the rebar...:-/
