At the MARLS conference this spring, Parrish was discussing PLSS, Benson Syndicate, Looters of the Public Domain, etc... Anyway he had a list, IIRC that was from Looters, that listed misc members of the Syndicate and quantified the suspected fraud... Anyone have a copy of the list they'd be willing to share/post? I'll try to contact Parrish tomorrow, but figured this board would have the answer in a hurry.
Thanks-
Apparently, I have to link to a photo/file hosting web page to post a picture. I don't have or can't remember having such an account, so I'll do the next best thing.
There's a list on page 184 of Chaining the Land, 2nd Edition, by Bud Uzes (ret. from CA State Lands Commission and since deceased). I have both that and Looters of the Public Domain at home. If you PM me your email, I can send the list to you.

Did Steven-John mention the "Settlemeyer Notes?"
I have the "index" and parts of several of the "Settlemeyer" FIELD Books (copies) that I used many years ago on a "Benson-ized" Township in Nevada.
A dark stain on the PLSS...

All of the reports are available via. Google Books if you do some sleuthing, but the provided pages look very similar to what I remember finding.
For others who weren't familiar with the Benson Syndicate, here are two out of lots of hits in a search.

My early years was near Benson property. It was hard to resist thinking a "missing" post was fraud. But when topo calls are not quite possible, or a Redwood BT would fall in a zone where a Redwood could never grow... bazinga! (Redwoods need constant water, and lots of it. Not gonna happen on a dry shale hillside)
Maybe state survey boards should start "Benson" lists. I have a folder for "sh_tty surveys" I think I'll change the name to "Benson" surveys. 🙂
Have a nice weekend, Jp
