Hello all. Neat forum reminds me of the old POB site.

I have a trusty ranger 200 we still use every day. I worked in a bit of rain the other day with it. Now the power button seems to be sticking when pushed and does some crazy things. One thing it does is not turn off the power!

Any ideas on how to salvage this thing?

Sounds like some corrosion may be setting up. Don't know how to fix it, other than disassembling it and cleaning the contacts.

Best of luck. I have a Ranger 200T that still works great. Dread the day that it bites the dust. It is my backup data collector.

Hayes instruments replaced my keyboard on a 200C last year. Seems like it was $200-300.

Same thing, though, about 5 or 6 keys stopped working after I used it in the rain.

That would be the best bet. I did not know that they still had parts for those units. That is good to know.

I have a 200C that began acting up too. The problem first appeared by random clicking sounds being registered like the screen was going bad. Later I discovered the problem only occurred when it was raining out and water worked its way down through the keyboard. I never found a fix or sent it in for service. The keyboard face plate can easily be lifted off with a putty knife if you want inspect/ clean the contacts underneath.

If I remember correctly the circuit board along with the contacts are contained under a film or coating. It dont' think you can clean the individual contacts, but I would recommend using dry cloth and compressed air to remove any dirt that has worked its way in there along with inspecting if any holes have been worn through the coating.

I have/had a blue TDS Ranger assigned to me. It is at least 10 years old.

We took it in for service.

Now it has a yellow top salvaged from a TSCe which was done to replace the touch screen. The TSCe has a lemo in place of the barrel type charger port so they gave us an adapter for the 26 pin port on top.

Bang it gently upside down and blow it out with canned air. Jp
