Just a little info than ran though my head last night. I have used TDS for almost 18 years. now i started using TopServ a few years back and have not kept up with the latest TDS. Not here to say which is better, because they both have good and bad points.
Anyways to what I wanted to let everyone know. The version I have has a really bad bug that will bite you. I did report it to TDS when I found it but I have not updated to see if it got fixed. We found it when shooting sewer manhole, to make it easier on the drafter we was dipping the manhole and then changing the rod height and retaken a shot on the rim for the invert. (using a fix rod) Anything other than the fix rod height would result in an elevation error.
Back at the office I ran this test using a 2m fix rod
Shot pk elevation 100.00
Changed rod height in dc for plus 5 foot elevation reported 95.75
Changed rod height in dc for plus 10 foot elevation reported 91.90
If your changing your rod height for anything might want to run than simple test to make sure your is not doing the same.
Which version of TDS Survey Pro does this apply to?
I will have to boot up the recon and see. I will post that when I get back to the house tonight.
That is certainly strange.
I've been using the TDS GPS module for the last 7 years using various rod heights and have never seen that.
Ok got one of the Recons to boot up, I have Survey Pro 4.5.0 in the one that the test was run with. Mind you this was back in the summer of 2009 when all this went down, but TDS also ran the same test and confirmed the bug, they said they were close to a new release and would make sure it was fix in that release and was not going to put out a hotfix.
The screens on my reckons are beat up by the field crew and was a good time to switch to the software by the equipment I was using. That's why I never updated or followed up on the fix.
If you ever want to update the Recons, the last version of TDS Survey Pro available for them (assuming they are running Windows Pocket PC 2003) was 4.5.3. You'd probably have to contact spectra precision to get a download link though, because the TDS website no longer exists.
Ya, I should update just to have it. Never know someday it might not be available.
