Leica RCS w/ TCRA 1103, TDS Survey Pro.

I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Today was the second time it happened to me; I want to see if it's a RTFM error or if something is whacked with my software.

Both times doing stakeout using a point file with the stakeout points linked with a control file. I stake the first point, take a shot on the location and store it. Go to the next point and it tells me to go to a location that is nowhere near my stake point. Today, I was about 2 feet away from the stake point location, and it was telling me to come 29' and go right 65'. I unselected the control file, keyed in the CP's into the stakeout file, and everything was fine. ?

I've never seen that in 10+ years of using TDS, but I rarely use control files any more. I haven't used them since the HP48 days. On a side note, I try to avoid "storing" points after a stakeout because all it does is store a coordinate based on the occoupy/backsite/angle/distance it does not store the actual angle and distance, which is OK most of the time unless there is any post processing or traverse adjustment done in the office in which case the adjustment will be applied to everything except the "stored" points. This is also true of editing descriptors, I try to avoid it if at all possible for the same reason.

Yes, and I believe it is more the gun shooting something other than the prism.

Some of the things over the years that have affected prism lock. The shaded brim on a hardhat sunshade, reflective sunglasses, and that funky reflective strip on some safety vests.

I've had repeated bad readings, only to go to the gun and find out there is a bumper or windshield reflecting sunlight behind the rod.

This has always been the weak point of the Leica robots, and the reason I don't use ATR for stakeout.

I was only about 100' from the gun at the time when this happened yesterday. The first time I was about 300', so I could see that being the problem. Maybe the amber color of my "cool shades" is a little to close to the orange prism..... I will continue to monitor the situation. Thanks for the input.

I went to a wider brimmed hardhat and canvas hat when not on construction sites for that very reason, when I am looking at the RCS it blocks my glasses so there is no interference.

Interesting. Now that I think about it, I usually wear a boonie hat in the summer which could be why it never happened until now. I had to bust out a stocking cap because it was cold that morning.
