A kid sees a preacher, he goes to church once a week, acts important, and folks listen to him. He gets a nice salary for it.
A kid sees a SURVEYOR, he goes out in the woods, for an hr, sets some pins, and charges $1000 for it.
He assumes this is a great gig... a ripoff. "Go sharpen your pencil..." Wants it faster and cheaper.
Whereas, a good preacher, is selfless, and has to LIVE his sermons, before he can preach them.
And, a GOOD surveyor, has to stand behind his work, and perform ethical work. All the time.
A knowledgeable client, appreciates him. They know he has earned it.
Now, there are some "Bad Preachers", who do not live their sermons, and they are hypocrites.
And, there are some bad surveyors... who do not stand behind their work. I know of one that used several different corners... for the same location, and they differed by quite a bit. Depending on who they were working for.
The Old Testament Priests, were the surveyors, back in Moses, and Solomon's day. In fact, it's where we get alot of the doctrine for creating Meets and Bounds descriptions. (Exodus 23:31)
Just as there are Good and Faithful preachers, there are good and faithful surveyors.
And, there are Charlatans. Those who wear the clothes of truth, but are not doing their job.
Anyway, the historic connection is something that I don't think we can escape.
Be a good and faithful surveyor.
