Surveyor Creates Foundation to Protect Red River Rights
There's been a big dispute going on in Texas for the last several years (at least) involving the Red River, three counties, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and a bunch of property owners. It's often referred to as the "Red River Land Grab".
While you are welcome to enjoy this article and comment accordingly, I just wanted to point out that this is a successful test of our new blog-to-forum connector! Our authors can now submit blog articles for our home page and News section -- once published, they automatically generate a connected forum post for discussion. Furthermore, users can then comment in the comments section of the article itself OR they can comment in the linked forum post (this post, for example), and comments will be shown in both locations! Pardon my excitement, I think it's pretty dang sweet.
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled discussion. 🙂
It should also be noted that Davey is running for Land Commissioner in Texas.
There is a lot missing from the "nutshell" recap. Most importantly the 1923 supreme court decision and the boundary that resulted from that decision.

The BLM assertion has been that even though they SCOTUS defined the line, the original line was much further South according to Spanish interpretation.
This is obvious BS and overreaching by the BLM for a land (mineral) grab.
Thank GOD the only federal land we have in Texas is that which they swapped for or bought.
I always liked A. D. Kidder' opinions on OHWM and Cypress trees...wait...that is for Arkansas and...Hatchie Coon.
I wish the late Jim Simpson was still alive! I would take a vacation to watch his court/congressional testimony.

No, the BLM is claiming the line approved by the Supreme Court is the current boundary.
The survey they are defending is available on the GLO records Web site. Search for T5S R12W Inian meridian. It's the 2009 survey. Read the comments that start on page 2 of the notes.
