Well, before I got the truck, I asked my mechanic what I should consider.

He said, "If you don't want to see a lot of me, get another Toyota."

I do like the power that my V8 has. You can safely pass with it, I have the overdrive on all the time, and it can get me out muddy and messy spots.

I have heard that later models have better gas mileage though.

I have a 2007 Tundra with the 5.7 liter V8. I average about 16.5 mpg around town and about 19 on the highway. I wanted the larger engine because I tow a camper. When towing my +/-4500 pound camper I get about 11 mpg. Like you and Kent I've had no mechanical problems. The larger brakes and transmission cooler are a must if you're going to tow here in the south.

Andy,

That's a nice looking truck!

I currently get around 12-13 mpg on the whole; not too good. 19 would be great!

I like my numbers from my 2005 Dodge better.

Around 15 in town, 18-23 depending on conditions on the highway and around 14 towing a 6,000+ lb. travel trailer.

Plus it is a 3/4 ton and handles the heavier trailer almost like it wasn't there.
