Does anyone know of and Iphone app that will add and/or subtract bearing (angles, az'z, etc) in Deg/min/seconds format directly? Maybe a particular type of calculator app? For that matter......any suggested "Surveying" related apps would be nice to hear about also. Thnx

Probably the best bet would be to purchase the i41cx program by Al Software.
You can then program it to do just about anything. All the limitations that existed in the real calculator are now gone. JRL

Check out the apps from Jamoke Innovations. Search the app store for civil eng. Another one called Theodolite is pretty cool too.
The i41cx program also comes with the survey pac and any of the other programs HP sold over the years. So it really does do alot of surveying related stuff. horizontal curves, vertical curves, traverse, ect. ect. It just takes awhile to step backwards and relearn a different way of thinking. JRL
I have a TI-89 calculator ($200) and my old profession wrote a program for it - its awesome!
search app store for 48gx or i48. free app and it looks and works just like the calculator.

I just got an HP42S emulator for my LG WP7, and the thing really works and looks like the real calculator. Havent tried programming it yet, but it does have the hms+ & hms- functions. I have to believe that app (or similar) is available for the Iphone, as those apps seems to come out before any windows based apps.

The first thing that I did when I got my new android was find the hp48 emulator. Don't want to go back to packing another item in my vest. I already pack enough stuff.

I have an Android phone, and use the 15C emulator from hpcalc.org. Runs just like the original, and should be available for the iPhone as well.
those apps are brilliant and so cheap.

Theodolite is good, I have the Pro version.
GaiaLite shows your location on USGS quad sheets and allows you to download the maps for quicker access later.
AutoCAS WS is free and gives you the ability to open and view .dwg files (I use dropbox to get the drawings on the phone)
Metes allows you to enter a legal description and overlay it on google maps.
MetalDetector is a very basic metal detector app some have had luck with.

How does the Theodolite Pro work on the 3GS?
I have the iphone 4, but I would think it works just as good on the 3GS. I think there is a free version you can try out to be sure.
