It's been a while since my last post about the surveying in Belgium, a lot of work has to be done.
Some weeks ago two of us went to the Ardennes in the french speaking part of our little country for another 6 km of a new high voltage connection.

It was a 2 hours drive to the other side of the country so we stayed at a hotel for a week and worked long days.
Actually it went too smooth, we finished the field work in only 4 days.

Some more views of the site,

In the background you see the three steam plumes of the cooling towers of the nuclear power plant.

A lot of yellow fields with flowering oilseed rape.

It's also the region of one of our well known spring cycle classics, 'la flèche Wallonne' with the climbing of the 'mur de huy'

I did another indoor job in Oostende at the maintenance depot of the tram, a very busy place with a lot of action.

The job started terrible as the first day one of the employers hit the S6 when he stepped from a small step up. The S6 is fixed already, and our dealer lend me an S8 wich turned out to be a great gun for this job.

The S8 has a built in video, so on the dc you can switch from the usual input screens to video image to turn the instrument to whatever you see, yourself for example when you lost lock, or when you switch on the laser spot to point at inaccessible points.

I captured some screenshots,

For the first time I had to measure some point right above the instrument, I do understand and appreciate the strange shape of the handle now!

Christof.

Christ-

Truly amazing what you do !

Please do not stop sending us your 'Belgian Surveying'.

As a question from a purely cadastral (boundary) surveyor (me), do you set out property boundaries too ?

Cheers,

Derek

It was a 2 hours drive to the other side of the country.....

Christof LOL

....I can travel from Adelaide 850k to Coober Pedy and still have at least another 500k to get to the Northern Territory South OZ border!

Great pics . I have just been working in a sewerage treatment plant where potential for methane explosion high.... No pics for general consumption.

Very interesting posts, these Belgium surveys

By the way, if you wonder, In Canada, many years ago, they changed the name of these plants (yellow fields) to Canola.

Dank U

Richard,

the moment I was typing that I realized that I'm probably the only on the board that can cross the country from border to border by car in just two hours.

Christof
I remember years ago when we were flying into London we saw large fields of yellow. When we had a chance to talk with a local person, they told us it was Rape seed plants.
As always, enjoyed your post and pictures. Someday I'll need to buy a digital camera so I can post some pictures. Of course, I don't know how interesting pictures of me sitting around napping will be to everybody.
