I noticed this (who couldn't) on the edge of the road a mile or so from my home. For you non-nc folks, this stands for N.C. Geodetic Survey. The letters measure about 24-30". The arrow points to a monument in a maintained yard area along with two power poles with witness tags pointing to the monument.

I wish I could have stumbled upon some of that back when I was searching for NCGS monumnets. Although I will say that most of the fun is in the search.

A NC trend

I always find this sort of stuff around NC monuments.... The same monuments have no written recoveries in like 15-20 years. What's up with that NC boys???

A NC trend

What do you want for a $300 survey? Proper field and office procedures, and due diligence?

I prefer the term "surveyor excrement".

I am always harping my field guys that they do not need to paint point names on everything but it goes in the left ear and out the right. I have asked nicely all the way to yelling and screaming and it just does not seem to sink in. I am just waiting for a complaint to come in and then that very same crew is going to be sent out with solvent and brushes with orders to scrub their paint marks away.
