Not sure how well this will show up in the photos, but...
...the last few weeks I have noticed surveyors orange flagging tied to everything standing still down our main drag in Franklin. They look like they have been tied in pretty bows by someone's grandma, not necessarily by a surveyor.
But, when I saw this sign today in front of them, well, I couldn't resist.

Well, at least it's only flagging (that can later be removed) and not a bunch of orange paint.
Worked for a surveyor who did not believe in taking any more shots than he could get away with, those shots cost money to do. Many times I would attempt to give him shots where they were needed in order for the city engineer to design grade, he does not need them was the response. After doing this on several jobs the City Engineer called asking for more work, and wanted to meet both of us on the site. I followed them around while the engineer marked with white paint spots where he wanted shots, got them to. Would check work we had done against the specks, same attitude, they don't know what they need and off the drawings would go, only to be returned. Maybe the ribbon here is a similar situation.,

Probably some engineer who snuck some signs and flagging out of the survey dept. back at the office so he could do some "land surveying".....
Brad!!
It still looks like it did when I lived in 70 and 71-2
If I'm not mistaken, in the last pic, the red brick building on the left is my old bank where I had my first bank account.
Do you know any of the Grimmer or McMurray or Schmidt families? They lived nearby us on East Adams Drive back then.

Brad-- I did a route survey on main st. there in Franklin about two years ago for a streetscape project, perhaps the ribboned up trees are to be removed??? Anyway rest assured I did not tie that ribbon, I'd like to think I tie a little more manly than that. haha
Probably just the local GIS folks practicing on some standard items found in cities.
